Puffy eye is a situation in which the area around the eyelid becomes swollen due to many reasons like lack of sleep, poor diet, crying, ageing etc. If it is swollen due to crying, lack of sleep, poor diet, the puffiness improves when the treated with some home remedies or taking ample amount of rest or lowering sodium intake because in these situations the eyes become puffy due to some fluid retention. But when the puffiness appears with increasing age it does not resolves on its own and needs some medical intervention.
What happens with the increasing age is that the muscles become weak and the area around the eyelid becomes droopy or loose and the normal fat which was supported by the eyelids starts getting deposited in the eyelid which looks like eye bags or sacs.
Hence in such cases blepharoplasty is needed to remove the extra fat in the eyelid area. This is usually performed by a blepharoplasty surgeon whom you should choose carefully. The surgeon whom you choose should have a good reputation and an experience of minimum of 8-10 years. You can ask for the photos of before and after of the surgeries that he might have done. Also if possible you can do a quick reference check. After having done all this, you can go ahead with the surgery which is usually done under the local anaesthesia or sometimes when needed then under general anaesthesia.
Generally the complication or the risks associated with these surgeries are minimal. Even if there are any then they resolves with some medications in due course of time like itching or dryness of the eyes. Sometimes eye drops are also prescribed to relieve any itching or pain. Blepharoplasty is a potent weapon against ageing effects that makes us look less pretty.
